Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D is a new program offering prescription drug benefits to anyone entitled to Medicare Part A or enrolled in Part B. The program begins January 1, 2006, but enrollment will begin on November 15, 2005. The Part D Drug Benefit will be provided by insurance companies, with different plans available in different areas. Premiums are expected to be approximately $35 per month.

Benefits

After an annual deductible of $250, Medicare Part D will pay 75% of qualified prescription drug costs up to $2,250. From that point, the beneficiary has to pay the next $2,850 in drug costs, until a total of $5,100 is reached. After $5,100, Medicare pays 95% of all prescription drug costs for the rest of the year.
